In this guide we will be collecting everything in Alone In The Dark. This includes all Lagniappes, Clues, Conversations & Locks.

A few things to remember during the guide.

  • Remember to read every clue in the menu.

  • You will have to play through the game at least once with each character since some collectibles will be exclusive to their playthrough (the collectibles will carry over from one playthrough to the other).

  • At the time of writing this guide, the “You Can’t Keep Me Out!” trophy (open all safes and locks) is currently bugged and may not unlock.

  • Make sure you talk to the NPCs until they have nothing else to say for the “Conversation” collectibles to count.

  • If you are having trouble finding anything, you can check out the video at the end of the page and watch it on Youtube to find timestamps for every collectible in the description (they will be in the same order as this guide).

CHAPTER 1

EDWARD/EMILY ONLY - Clue (Edward Carnby, P.I) & Clue (Lasting Debt)/Clue (A Long Engagement) & Clue (Jeremy's Warning). You will start with these 2 clues depending on the character you choose.

Clue (Flashlight). Found in one of the barns in the Garage (first room of the game). You will automatically pick it up with the key needed to advance.

Clue (Family Bible). After going through the garden and greenhouse, you will enter the main house. Inside, enter the first door on your right. The Bible will be on the bed.

Lagniappe (Rat Poison). Once you get to the kitchen area, enter the small room on the right (the pantry) to find the collectible on the ground in the corner.

Lagniappe (Streetcar Ticket). After leaving the kitchen through the southern door, go right and then through the gate. You will find the collectible on the shelves in front of you.

Clue (Sabotage). Return to the hall with brick walls and enter the door on the left (Boiler Room). The clue will be on the chair inside.

Clue (Derceto Floor Plans). After going up the stairs to get to the First Floor of the house, do a U-turn and go down the little hall on the left to enter the Orderly. You will find the map on the wall to your right.

Clue (Lottie's Diary). Found on the night table in the corner in the Orderly on the first floor of the main house.

Lagniappe (Rubber Stamp). Found next to the bell in the Reception on the first floor of the main house.

Clue (The Picayune Post). Found in the reception room on the first floor of the main house.

Clue (The Commonplace Book). Found on the table in Room #4 on the second floor of the main house.

EMILY/EDWARD ONLY - Conversation (Emily/Edward). Talk to Edward/Emily 3 times in Room #4 on the second floor of the main house.

Clue (Talisman Schematics). Obtained automatically after talking to Batiste on your first visit to the strange world.

Lagniappe (Preserved Reptile). On the floor in the same room as you meet Batiste for the first time if you are controlling Emily and on the workbench in the same room if you are controlling Edward.

Conversation (Baptiste). After the scene with Baptiste in the dream world, talk to him 3 times.

Lagniappe (Ju-Ju). After opening the door with Baptiste's keys, go through the courtyard and up the stairs on your left to find the collectible at the top.

Clue (Talisman). After opening the door with Baptiste's keys, go through the courtyard and up the stairs on the left. On the top floor, go around to the last door and open it to find the talisman on the table inside.

CHAPTER 2

Clue (Repair The Boiler). Found in the Clerk's Office. You will now be able to enter with Baptiste's key set.

Clue (Broken Plates). Also found in the Clerk's Office.

Clue (Staff & Patient Directory). Also found in the Clerk's Office.

Lagniappe (Porschach). Found on the bookshelf in the back of the Clerk's Office.

Clue (Patient Files). Found on the bookshelf above the safe in the Clerk's Office.

Lock (Cleck's Office Safe) & Lagniappe (Alone In The Dark). Open the safe in the Clerk's Office with combination 9 Left > 1 Right > 3 Left. If you open the safe early you will get the "Alone In The Dark" Lagniappe.

Clue (Emily Is Here). Go upstairs to the second floor to find the clue in Jeremy's Room.

Lagniappe (Fountain Pen). Found inside Batiste's Room on the second floor.

Clue (I Must Return). Found inside Perosi's Room on the second floor (you will need the key from the Clerk's Office).

Clue (Perosi's Journal). Found on the sofa inside Perosi's Room on the second floor (you will need the key from the Clerk's Office).

Lock (Perosi's Room Zodiac Lock). The correct combination is: Pisces > Libra > Taurus.

Clue (Lost Plantations Of Louisiana). Found in the Library on the first floor of the main house.

EMILY ONLY - Conversation (Ruth). Talk to Ruth in the library 3 times.

Lagniappe (Mummified Cat). Found in the Kitchen Garden after talking to NPC in the garden.

Clue (Pieces Of Plate). Found in the Boiler Room on the ground floor.

Clue (Oil Rig Report). Once you enter the dream world in Batiste's room after solving the clock puzzle, enter the house on the right to find the clue on the table inside.

Lock (Boat House Bolted Door). In the next building (the one where you have to fix the bridge), go through the door on your left and unbolt the door inside.

Lagniappe (Discarded Palette). In the dream world in Batiste's Room, after you fix the bridge, head upstairs and go around until you see a small gap on your right you can squeeze through. The collectible will be on the other side.

Lagniappe (Gazing Statuette). After destroying the red barrier and getting to the next building, go through the gap around the back of the building on the left and go through the gap. Then, enter the door of the building to find the collectible inside.

Clue (Reflections On The Power Of The Verb in Certain Text). Once you get back to the mansion you will be in the Small Parlor, loot the bag on the ground to get the clue and a few key items.

Clue (Barlow Lens Instructions). Found in the Drawing Room on the first floor of the mansion (you will be able to access this room once you get the Palette Knife from the bag on the floor in the Small Parlor).

Lagniappe (Dog Collar). Found in the Drawing Room.

EMILY ONLY - Lagniappe (A Brightness From Afar). Found on the table in the Library (1F).

Lagniappe (Forsaken Crucifix). Found on one of the shelves in the Wine Cellar (Ground Floor).

Lock (2F Mezzanine Hall Bolted Door). Unbolt the door in the hall to the east of the Mezzanine.

EDWARD ONLY - Conversation (Ruth). Talk to Ruth 3 times in the Mezzanine.

Lagniappe (Beignet). Found on the south side of the Mezzanine (2F).

Lock (Mezzanine Bolted Door). Open the bolted door on the south side of the Mezzanine.

Lagniappe (Syringe). Found on the floor in the Grand Parlor.

Clue (On The Commonplace Of Evil). Found under the fireplace in the Dining Room (1F).

Lock (Dining Room Bolted Door). Unbolt the door on the northern side of the Dining Room (1F).

EDWARD ONLY - Lagniappe (A Brightness From Afar). Found on the table where Ruth was in the Mezzanine (remember that if you picked this collectible up during Emily's playthrough, it will not be there).

Clue (A Small Request). Found in Grace's Room (2F).

Lagniappe (Jack In The Box). Found on the chair in the corner of Grace's Room (2F).

Clue (Your Medicine). Found on the table in Cassandra's Romm (2F).

Lagniappe (Nurse's Watch). Found on the window in Lottie's Room (1F).

Lock (Lottie's Room Medicine Box). Once you get the Medicine Box Key from Cassandra's Room (2F), go back to Lottie's Room and open the box (this is story related, however, if you know the combination to the lock in Cassandra's Room, you can skip it).

Lock (Cassandra's Room Zodiac Lock). The correct combination is: Pisces > Gemini > Leo.

Lagniappe (Sheet Music). After solving the boiler puzzle, you will be in another dream section. After obtaining the 3rd (and final) medallion, go right and look through a gap you squeeze through on your left. The collectible will be on the other side of the gap.

Clue (My Everything). Obtained automatically after the memory section.

CHAPTER 3

Conversation (Juan). After the scene with Juan at the start of chapter 3, talk to him another 3 times.

Clue (The Great Library). Found on the far side of the 2nd floor of the library in the dream world at the start of Chapter 3.

Lagniappe (Unmasked Evil). From the previous clue, go up the stairs to the next floor. Here, look for a gap in the wall in front of you covered with vines. Squeeze through to find the collectible on the other side.

Lagniappe (Matchbook). Obtained automatically after the cutscene with Ruth.

Clue (The Dark Man Enters). Obtained automatically after the cutscene with Ruth.

Lagniappe (Typewriter Ribbon). After the cutscene with Ruth you will be outside in front of a warehouse. Here go right, then head towards the crane in front of you by going around the boxes an containers on your left. At the crane, go left and stick to the edge. You will soon walk across some wooden planks on the corner. Go to the end to find the collectible next to another crane.

Clue (New Orleans Docks - Pier #11). From where you start after the cutscene with Ruth, go right. Then, look for a small building on your left. A monster will destroy the door and attack you. After defeating the monster, go inside to find the map on the wall.

Lagniappe (Severed Horn). Once you emerge from the sewers you will be inside the big warehouse. Here, go to the door at the other end of the building and look left to find the collectible.

Clue (All His Things). Head upstairs inside the warehouse and enter the room at the end. You will find the clue in the cupboard under the Tommy gun.

Lock (Pregzt Shipping Co Safe) & Clue (Cargo Manifest). Open the safe the following combination Left 4 > Right 5 > Left 4.

Lagniappe (Witness The Black Pharaoh). After leaving the warehouse, head towards the building straight in front of you. Before you go inside, look for a courtyard to the right of the building. The poster will be on the wall.

Clue (Beyond The Nile Valley). In a box at the camp where you pick up the rope in the desert.

Lagniappe (Canopic Jar). In front of the big statue as soon as you use the rope to go down the hole.

Lagniappe (Children of A Dark Sun). First, pull the lever to the left of the big statue. Then, go through the door, get to the end, pick up the medallion and place it on the statue. Pull the lever on the wall and use the statue to aim the beam of light to the crystal above the door. Go through the door and up the stairs. Once you see some purple curtains in front of you, go down the hall to your left. At the end go left and up some more stairs. At the top go right and then right again to enter the small room with the collectible inside.

Clue (The Dark Man's Contract). Obtained automatically at the end of chapter 3.

CHAPTER 4

Lagniappe (Broken Spectacles). In the sink in the WC on 1F.

Clue (Preparations For St. John's). Found on the desk in Lottie's Room (1F).

Clue (Lunacy & The Asterte Artists' Colony). Found on the bookshelf to the right as soon as you enter the library (1F).

Lagniappe (Opera Playbill). On a chair in the corner of the Small Parlor (1F).

Clue (Keep Our Secrets). Found under the door leading to the Laundry Room in the Conservatory (Ground Floor).

Clue (To Detective Carnby). Found inside Jeremy Hartwood's Room (use the ladder in the Kitchen Garden to get there) (2F).

Clue (Trust Me). Found on the bed in Batiste's Room (2F).

Conversation (MacCarfey). Talk to MacCarfey as he lays on the floor after the cutscene in the Sitting Room (2F).

Lagniappe (Movie Script). Found inside the luggage in Cassandra's Room (2F).

Clue (Cassandra's Last Page). Inside the typewriter in Cassandra's Room (2F).

Lock (1F Hall Bolted Door). Go to the Hall (1F) where you see the Dark Man and unbolt the door to the Grand Parlor.

Lock (Clerk's Office Safe) & Clue (The Empty Room). Open the safe in the Clerk's Office (1F) with combination 9 Left > 1 Right > 3 Left (even if you opened the safe earlier you will have to open it again to get the key and the clue).

Clue (Cassandra's Things). Found inside Dr. Gray's Office (1F).

EDWARD ONLY - Clue (Maccarfey's Pirate Treasure). Found in the same place as the France piece and the "Cassandra's Things" clue in Dr. Gray's Office.

Clue (Jeremy's Treatment). Found in the typewriter in Dr. Gray's Office (1F).

Lock (Dr. Gray's Office Bolted Door). Open the bolted Door in Dr. Gray's Office leading to the Treatment Room (1F).

Lagniappe (The Flying Dutchman). Found on the sofa in the Treatment Room (1F).

Lagniappe (Jangling Shaker). Found inside the Grand Parlor (1F) behind the bar. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS THE FIRST TIME YOU ENTER, ONCE YOU LEAVE THE ROOM WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL.

Lock (Stairwell Gate). Go to the Stairwell Gate (1F) and open it with the key you get from Dr. Gray's Office (do this before activating the memory in Ruth's room with Emily).

Clue (Moment Of Clarity). Found on the large box in MacCarfey's Room (1F).

EMILY ONLY - Lagniappe (War Photo). On the dresser in Ruth's Room (1F).

Clue (Henry Cassel's Zoetrope). Found on the box next to the window in Ruth's Room (1F).

Lagniappe (Ashes Of Indigo). Found in the Empty Room (1F).

You will now enter a section of the game that changes depending on who you are controlling!

EMILY ONLY - Lock (Empty Room Safe) & Clue (To Emily). Open the safe in the Empty Room (1F) with the combination 1 Left > 9 Right > 1 Left > 8 Right.

EDWARD ONLY - Lock (Empty Room Safe) & Clue (Look For The Girl). Open the safe in the Empty Room (1F) with combination 6 Left > 9 Right > 2 Left to find the clue inside.

EMILY ONLY - Lagniappe (Box Of Biscuits). After waking up in the basement after the war memory and activating the power, look for the collectible on the desk in the corner.

EMILY ONLY - Clue (Closing The Refuge). In the desk to the right of the previous collectible.

EMILY ONLY - Lagniappe (Toe Tag). After getting the Truth Key (Story Related), turn around and grab the collectible from John's Corpse.

EDWARD ONLY - Lagniappe (Curious Napkin). In the dream with Edward you will go through a park to get to Hotel Saint George. As soon as you enter the hotel, you will find the collectible on the table on your right.

EDWARD ONLY - Lagniappe (Profane Totem). After you go outside to the river area after the hotel during Edward's memory, continue on the main path until the road splits into two. Take the left path to find it in the hut at the end.

EDWARD ONLY - Conversation (Grace). During the memory with Edward you will cross a bridge and trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene talk to Grace 3 times.

From this point on, the story path will ALMOST be the same for both characters.

Clue (If All Else Fails) & Clue (Radiography Notes). Found on the desk in the Laboratory (Ground Floor).

Lagniappe (Scapegoat). On the metal bed in the northwest corner of the Infermary.

Lagniappe (Map Of Caribbean). After running up the stairs to the attic as the water chases you, return to the Sitting Room (2F) and place the France piece (obtained from Dr. Gray's Office) into the globe.

Lock (Mezzamine Bolted Door). Go to Mezzamine (2F) and unbolt the door leading to the Stairwell as you make your way back to the Attic.

Lagniappe (Tessellated Shard). Found in the small room in the south west corner of the Attic.

Lagniappe (Pallid Mask). Once you get to the boat section, go up the stairs to the top floor. Here, look for a red lamp next to a hole. Drop down the hole and head into the next room to find the collectible on the red chair in the corner.

Lock (Kitchen Bolted Door). After the previous collectible, you will have to open this bolted door to leave the kitchen.

Lagniappe (Broken Compass). From the kitchen door you just unbolted, go down the stairs to the bottom floor. Here, go through the double red door to find the collectible on top of a box.

Lock (Boat Upper Level Bolted Door). Return to the top floor of the boat and go around the left side of the cabin. Go to the end and enter the last door. Inside, unbolt the door inside.

Lagniappe (Do Not Disturb). Obtained automatically as you try to open the door to Dr. Gray's Apartment (2F).

EMILY/EDWARD ONLY - Conversation (Emily/Edward). Talk to the other character 3 times once you enter Dr. Gray's Apartment before using the False Book.

Lagniappe (Toy Talisman). On the floor next to the desk after picking up the False Book in Dr. Gray's Apartment.

EMILY/EDWARD ONLY - Conversation (Emily/Edward). Talk to the other character 3 times in the next room after using the False Book.

Clue (First Meeting - Transcript). In the chest in front of the bed in Dr. Gray's Apartment.

Clue (The Snake Dagger). Found on the chair in the corner of the bedroom in Dr. Gray's Apartment.

Lagniappe (Sallow Offering). Found on the tent to the right of the bonfire at the camp where you get the Flare Gun after going through

the closet.

Clue (The Greenland Expedition). Behind the tent where you found the previous collectible.

CHAPTER 5

Conversation (Dr. Gray). Talk To Jeremy and Dr. Gray 3 times at the start of the chapter.

Conversation (Ruth). Talk to Ruth 3 times. She can be found on the stairs across from Dr. Gray and Jeremy at the start of the chapter.

Conversation (Mrs. Thomson). Talk to Mrs. Thomson in the Conservatory 3 times.

Conversation (Batiste). Talk to Batiste 3 times in the Conservatory.

Conversation (Lottie). Talk to Lottie in the Conservatory 3 times.

Conversation (MacCarfey). Talk to MacCarfey 3 times in the Conservatory.

Conversation (Grace). Talk to Grace 3 times in the Conservatory.
